According to its official website, this year Bissell is celebrating its 133rd anniversary. As with most great inventions, Bissell vacuum cleaners evolved from a single idea meant only to make life easier. For Anna Bissell, what started as a complaint to her husband, Melvin Bissell, that it was near impossible to sweep the tiny particles of sawdust from the carpet in their crockery shop each day, Melville designed a carpet sweeper machine that made her daily chore easier. From that machine grew an entire industry of manufacturing some of the best-known vacuum cleaners in the world today.
